Use case
Transcode live UDP streams to HLS for OTT
Real-time H.264/HEVC transcoding with ABR, subtitles and HLS output.
The problem
Why it happens
Broadcast feeds arrive as UDP multicast, but phones, browsers and smart TVs need HLS at several bitrates. Building an encoder farm for this is costly.
Sounds familiar?
- Channels only reach set-top boxes, not apps
- Bandwidth wasted on MPEG-2 feeds
- Subtitles lost on OTT
The KVARTA way
How we solve it
The TV Transcoder transcodes up to 50 SD or 20 HD channels to H.264 or HEVC with AAC or MP3 audio in real time. It outputs HLS and UDP at the same time, with ABR up to 5 resolutions and subtitles burned into the picture. Actual channel count depends on the source and settings.
What is checked
- Up to 50 SD / 20 HD channels
- H.264 and HEVC, AAC and MP3
- HLS and UDP outputs together
- ABR up to 5 resolutions
