Use case
Silence detection and automatic backup audio for FM transmitters
Switch to a backup source automatically when the main audio fails.
The problem
Why it happens
If the studio link fails, an FM transmitter keeps broadcasting silence. Dead air costs listeners and advertisers, and someone has to switch sources by hand.
Sounds familiar?
- Dead air when the studio link drops
- Manual switching at remote sites
- Several separate receivers to maintain
The KVARTA way
How we solve it
The Broadcast Audio Source combines a DVB tuner, IP audio streaming (Icecast, Shoutcast, UDP/RTP) and a local MP3 player in one unit. When it detects silence or low bitrate, it switches to the backup automatically, with balanced XLR and AES outputs to the transmitter.
What is checked
- Silence and low bitrate detection
- Automatic backup switching
- DVB, Icecast/Shoutcast, UDP/RTP, MP3
- XLR and AES outputs
